Coming Soon: Google’s Better Battery

With all the electronic devices around these days, companies are constantly looking for ways to make them more attractive to consumers, and one of those ways it to provide longer battery life. With this in mind, Google is working on creating its own, better battery.

There are a number of companies joining the adventure to create a better battery. Some of those include Apple, Tesla, IBM, and undoubtedly many more. Generally, in this case, bigger is not better, and researchers are looking for ways to create batteries that are not only smaller, but also hold a charge for longer periods. The race is on to create longer lasting batteries, not only for smartphones, but also for other wearable devices, drones and even car batteries.

Google Again Venturing Into New Territory

Not so long ago, Google was just a great Internet search tool, and then along came Google Maps and street views and things have barreled on from there. Now you can find Google all over the place in such fields as robotics, communications, transportation and even health care. It appears that Google is always ready for a new adventure into new fields.
With the various devices and applications that the company has created, they have used batteries provided by other companies.

They have been studying the batteries and have decided they want to build their own. They have created a group designated Google X Research Lab that is comprised of four people. The leader of the group is Ramesh Bhardwaj, who is a battery expert that previously worked for Apple. The aim is to create a smaller, better battery that will last for days and require less frequent charging. This would be a great advantage to consumers and especially to the company that comes up with such a battery.

Google’s Bettery Battery Improves on Battery Technology

Existing rechargeable battery technology includes the lithium-ion, nickel cadmium and nickel metal hydride, which can all work well and hold a nice charge, but consumers always want more, faster. For users of rechargeable devices, having to charge them less often would be a major selling point in the decision of what company to buy from. Having a better battery that requires less frequent charging would be a great adventure and a huge load off the minds of many.

Google is reported to be working on improving current lithium-ion batteries and is developing a solid-state battery that is a thin film. The majority of batteries work though a type of liquid, however a solid-state battery moves the current through a solid, making it safer and smaller. The question is whether the thin-film solid-state better battery can be manufactured in a cost effective manner.

Google’s Better Battery a Big Plus for Travelers

The creation of a smaller, more powerful, better battery would be a huge benefit to travelers. Portable devices could be smaller and weight even less than they do now. No longer would people have to lug around a briefcase-size bag to hold their laptop. With a slender, solid-state battery, all you would need was a sleeve to hold your wallet-sized computer that would rival the charger in size.

Some things to do and learn in case of the disaster of your technology’s batteries failing during travels:
