Japan Puts Space Alcohol in Rocket, But It’s Not For the Astronauts

The secret to bottling the perfect alcohol is elusive to say the least. With so many different ways to make booze it’s no wonder that so many are willing to experiment to see if they can come up with a way to make better alcohol, but no one has gone quite as far as Japan in experimenting to procure the perfect bottle of liquor: Japan has now sent six different types of alcohol into space to age. And while Japan may be more concerned with the scientific effects of space alcohol, that doesn’t make their space alcohol any less a milestone for alcohol fanatics around the world.

Japan is Shooting Alcohol into Space, but Why?

I think the more appropriate question in regards to sending alcohol into space is why not? A future where space exploration will involve alcohol began on August 19th, 2015, when samples of alcohol were launched into the final frontier to determine how alcohol ages in outer space. The alcohol will be stored in part of the International Space Station (ISS), while whiskey on earth will be aged for the same period of time in order to determine the difference between aged Space whiskey vs. aged Earth whiskey. Whiskey, huh?

How is Space alcohol Going to Taste?

Scientists in charge of the experiment are far less concerned with the taste of the aging space whiskey, and more concerned about the difference in chemical properties between Space alcohol and Earth alcohol. The experiment which includes six different types of alcohols, will use measurements including x-rays, visible light spectrum observations, and nuclear magnetic resistance in order to determine what effects, if any, will be had as a result of various alcohol being in outer space.

How Can I Get My Hands On Some Of This Space Alcohol?

Chances are the whole first batch of alcohol that has been sent into space will be used solely for research, but if proven to alter the state of alcohol, alcohol manufacturers could soon be sending all of their alcohol into space to age. Looking forward to space alcohol with any luck.
