Leave it to the Japanese to bring shoes into the future. We had smart phones, then smart watches and now, that’s right, smart shoes. These aren’t the Adidas or Nike’s your older brother wore in the 90’s. These are just a tad different. The Japanese startup, Orphe has a few unique additions to the classic shoe.

Adidas has been popular for ages, and for good reason. They make a consistently high-quality shoe. They’re durable, not too flashy and resilient. That is probably why Adidas is so popular in Russia. Not to ignite another Cold War, but one thing Russia isn’t particularly known for is their style. One could say the same about Adidas. Orphe, on the other hand, takes style to the extreme. With a customizable lighting system and musical instrument/audio-visual controller built in, the competition of design is not even close. Adidas can offer up a cool shoe, but is it as cool as 100 full-color, sequentially controlled LED’s with a wireless module? The verdict stands.
NIKE WENT BACK TO THE FUTURE IN 2015. ORPHE IS THE FUTURE
In a rather genius marketing ploy, Nike capitalized on the “Back to Future” anniversary this past year. They did this by releasing the Nike shoe that Marty McFly wore in the second film. You know, the one that laces itself up. Pretty cool, but Nike’s cute invention doesn’t exactly hold up to Orphe. Each Orphe shoe contains a small unified circuit board. No, it won’t tie your shoe, but it can do much more. Use the shoes in combination with your various smartphone or computer apps. This can all be powered by Bluetooth and allows users a range of customizable options. If the options available don’t suit your needs, you can create your own. Stick to the swoosh Nike.
