Do you remember logging onto your PC and using Windows 95?

It seems likes such a long time ago, and that is because it was. Since then, Microsoft has continued to upgrade their operating system and are now all the way up to Windows 10. However, a genius programmer, Andrea Faulds, decided to give the world a hint of nostalgia. This programmer decided to make a way for users to boot up a copy of Windows 95.

WINDOWS 95 IS BACK?

As mentioned earlier, Faulds is the genius behind this idea. What Faulds did was use the emulator DOSBox to boot up a copy of the operating system. They then compiled that code into Java and used a program named Emscripten. This has led to users being able to run this operating system through any web browser. The only issue is this is very limited, and it really is not surprising. Given how old Microsoft Windows 95 is, and the fact that this is an emulator, it does not run perfectly. The major reason one would want to use this is to play a classic game of Solitaire. Honestly, this is pretty much for pure nostalgia, and nothing more.

USING THIS IS PAINFULLY SLOW

Again, this is not really a surprise given the age of the operating system. However, if you decide to run this through your web browser then be aware that it will be painfully slow. It is so bad that you might have to wait a good ten minutes before you see the start-up screen! Not only this but running certain programs while using it will cause the emulator to crash. For example, if you try and run Internet Explorer using this emulator then it will crash. Trust me, only use this if you want to see what Microsoft used to be and if you do not care about that then stay away.
