Xbox One Compatibility ‘Destroyed’ PS4 Plans: Microsoft Fans Happy Clapway

A recent Xbox announcement is great news for Xbox and Microsoft fans. It could also be very bad news for PS4. Microsoft revealed on Reddit their new plans for those who own Xbox One consoles. And it is kind of similar to the backwards compatibility announcement they made last year at E3. That was big news, but this news may be better. Microsoft and Xbox added more than 160 games the list of old games playable on the One. This may have helped keep their fans around longer and not switch to the PS4. But there was one issue that Xbox fans wanted to see fixed. Multi-disc support for backwards compatibility.

Microsoft Answers the Call

The multi-disc support conundrum has left Xbox fans wondering when. However, the time has come. They recently revealed that Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut is backwards compatible. This is big news since Deus Ex is a multi-disc game. Major Nelson, Xbox’s Director of Programming confirmed the multi-disc support on Twitter. Major Nelson also praised the BC engineers. This opens the door for endless possibilities. One fan could have every 360 game at their disposal.

Next Generation Xbox

Some may worry about the future of backward compatibility and multi-disc support. Especially since next generation models are sure to be released by Microsoft. But users will be able to buy all the classic 360 titles they want on the backward compatibility dedicated online store. Users can also place their old, but now new games, in their One and the console will magically make it work. Ready to play in a moment of minutes.

What Does This Mean for PS4?

Microsoft has worked hard to bring the One up to gaming standards. The backward compatibility and recent multi-disc support add to its refinement. This could put PS4 under pressure. Before, Sony Playstation fans had little to worry about. The PS4 has PS Plus service, better performance from games, and the 1TB hardware. The Sony design team also did a better job. But design will only get you so far. The hard work Microsoft is putting in may tilt the scales in their favor soon.
