Snowboarding is a ridiculous combination of high altitude and ever-increasing speed, an adventure that few can stomach. It takes a bonafide badass to dominate the slopes and soar through the air back and forth on the half pipe. Snowboarding is no easy task; it takes years of practice in order to master the craft. One person in particular catches my attention for her skills on the mountain, Hannah Teter.

We Are The Faction Collective

Teter is a snowboarding celebrity in the halfpipe. She has traveled all around the world racking up countless victories. Teter took home the gold medal during the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy. On top of that, she’s also has 6 World Cup victories to her name. Sure, the adventure of medaling in the Olympics against the world’s greatest athletes is nice, however, perhaps even more impressive is the fact that she inspired a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor; Maple Blondie.

What makes Hannah Teter so good? I believe it’s her toughness and her will to compete. In 2005 she suffered a knee injury that required multiple surgeries. In her own words, “There was a chunk of bone that had separated and it was kind of dangling around.” Knee injuries often feature lengthy, emotional and physically draining recoveries. Teter took on the adventure of rehabilitation with the hard work and diligence that she uses on the mountain. By the time the Winter Olypmpic Games in Turin rolled around, she was ready. Not only did she win the gold medal, she was also named USOC SportsWoman of the Year and an ESPY Award for Best Action Sports Female.

I do not want to say that Hannah Teter is a pioneer in the sport of snowboarding for women. I feel that she is a pioneer in the sport in general. Some people are just winners, they’re used to winning and they absolutely despise losing. I think Teter is someone who has the confidence to win and perform at any stage, regardless of who she is going up against. Wherever Hannah is to travel to for her next adventure, I believe she will make a strong impact.

Oh, she also appeared in one of Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit edition.
