The game developers for Elite: Dangerous first began their star enterprise from a Kickstarter campaign in 2012. Having a campaign was in part a strategic move from the Frontier Development Company as a means to test-market the concept of a space exploration game and to raise the money necessary to support the game’s vision. As it turns out, there was such enormous interest in a new galactic game that the funding reached £1.25M. The total funds raised was considered the highest funded project on Kickstarter. Currently, the first place prize of highest raised funds goes to the Pebble Smart Watch. A two year development process ensued and a number of releases experimented with different capabilities and features. This amplified interest in the game from the gaming community because feedback was taken seriously from game users and implemented into updated versions of the game.
The release of Elite: Dangerous was celebrated at a premiere event held at Duxford Imperial War Museum in November 2014, proceeding the worldwide release of Elite:Dangerous on December 16th 2014 to great acclaim.
Story Concept of Game:
It is the year 3300; interstellar rivalries flare as galactic superpowers fight proxy wars. Some may know you as an ally; others will call you a pirate, a bounty hunter, a smuggler, an explorer, an assassin, a hero… Fly alone or with friends; your actions change the galaxy around you in an ever unfolding story.
A truly fun game to play. The detail and sophistication built into the game makes one feel like they really are part of a future that is yet to happen.
