India’s Uninhabited Islands To Provide Tourism Boost

When it comes to traveling to India, one does not usually take into account India’s many uninhabited islands. There is currently a lot of discussion as to what they will be used for under the Sagarmala project. From providing great tourist locations to fantastic honeymoon destinations, India’s government is thinking outside the box and doing its best to help the economy grow.

With over 650 uninhabited islands to work with, India has no shortage of options when it comes to creating the best destinations available. The efforts made to renovate and breathe life into these desolate, uninhabited islands is part of the Sagarmala project. The Indian government has expressed interest in using the various islands for different purposes, whether it be for tourism, environmentally friendly energy generation (solar, wind), or for India’s booming Bollywood industry, each island will help to give India a boost in its own way.

With some of the islands, there is concern of endangering the wildlife that is already living there and there is discussion of conservation efforts for these islands. The government is considering leaving some of these particular islands alone so the animals and plants there will continue to be in a safe environment. In regards to the ones that will definitely be developed, there is also much consideration for the wildlife there and there will be restrictions in place so that the ecosystem will be under protection.

There is an estimate that there will be more than 10 smart cities within this Sagarmala project. A smart city is simply a city with a more environmentally friendly twist. These cities will have all of the amenities of a regular city, such as great restaurants, shopping locations, and homes or apartments available for those who chose to live here. The difference is that it will be using more efficient energy sources, and will have a minimal carbon footprint on the surrounding environment.

Coastal Economic Zones are another factor that will into play as part of this overall project. There will be approximately 10 of these CEZ’s to cover all of the different islands that India plans on renovating. Each will be responsible for the economic state of a certain set of islands and will help to boost and promote economic growth. There is also the option for investors to contribute and help with the costs of developing and building up all of these amazing islands.

Once all of the work is done with the Sagarmala project, and all of the selected islands are capable of performing to the expectations of the Indian people, the results should be quite satisfying. There is even discussion that the islands could very well overtake Dubai’s famous islands and become India’s next economic powerhouse.
