Drastic Actions Taken For Severe California Drought

There have been droughts in California in the past, but never quite like this. For the past four years, California has experienced one of the worst droughts in its history. The water levels have receded to the point where California’s reservoir is only about half full. This desperate time has called for drastic measures to be taken.

Effects of Drought on California Communities

Many communities in California have taken a big hit due to this severe California drought, as seen on California’s website. Many residents were previously getting their water from wells and the vast majority of the wells have dried up since the drought began. The other amenities in the communities such as golf courses, the homes lawns and all of the parks have also dried up and withered. Many golf courses in southern California have been forced to close down due to these horrific weather conditions.

The communities in California are rallying as best they can and many residents are currently using bottled water to help provide enough for them to drink, wash dishes, do laundry and even fill their toilets. The situation at the moment does not look good, which has forced the Governor of California, Jerry Brown, to take drastic measures.

Drastic Actions Taken

The Governor of California, Jerry Brown, has put laws into effect in order to lower the usage of water by the cities of California by 25 percent during this severe California drought. This goes for everything from not being able to water lawns, to not being able to wash cars at home without a nozzle that shuts off automatically. The people in California are feeling the effects of it but there are some who continue to choose to use up a lot of water without good reason, and these are the people that the Governor will be addressing with his next water usage cuts.

Many of California’s communities are doing the best they can to make it through this drought together and are supporting each other. Some of them get their water from the local fire station, while others use bottled water as previously mentioned, and still others are able to use what they have in the wells that still remain.

Preserving Water During Severe California Drought

One of the ways that members of the different communities in California are helping to preserve water is by dying their lawns green. A small business called A Lucky Lawn, is offering this service and is enabling residents to have the luxury of green grass without the use of precious water that the state simply doesn’t have at the moment.

Because of the strict water restrictions that have been put into place to help conserve as much water as possible during this severe California drought, there have been drastic changes in the farming industry and there could also be big changes coming for car washing companies. Although many car washing companies intentionally recycle the majority of their water, because there is such a limited supply, there could very well be cuts in place on how much water they are allowed to use.

There is hope that this severe California drought, as seen at Drought Monitor will be over in the near future, but until then the residents and those in authority will have to continue taking drastic measures to ensure that everyone has the water that they need to make it through this difficult time.
