Europe’s Largest Airline Launches New Apple Watch Lufthansa App for Travelers

Everyone has been talking about the Apple Watch since it’s official April 2015 release. With first-day sales that beat out the competition’s yearly profits and backorders that won’t be fulfilled until June, the Apple Watch is already quite popular. Now, thanks to a new app announced May 16th by Europe’s largest airline, Lufthansa, the Apple Watch is set to become a lot more popular among a specific group of consumers: Travelers.

New Apple Watch Lufthansa App Touted as Perfect Travel Companion

Lufthansa, a German airline, promises the innovative app will serve as the perfect travel companion. The app, which doubles as a boarding pass, allows passengers to access up-to-date vital flight information including seat numbers, terminal numbers, boarding times, flight statuses and even the current weather and time of their destination. Travelers will be able to access this information 24 hours before the flight and during the trip as well. Those who already use the Lufthansa app via an iPad or iPhone need not worry; the Apple Watch App is able to connect to the others via Bluetooth.

In short, the new Lufthansa app supplies the same essential information as a boarding pass in a convenient package that fits on the wrist.

Apple Watch’s Lufthansa App Builds on Rapidly Growing Mobile App Trend

The fact that the new app comes as people, travelers especially, are relying more and more on mobile apps to plan itineraries, book flights, and find hostels and hotels isn’t lost on Lufthansa executives. Jens Bischof, member of Lufthansa German Airlines Board for product, marketing, and maintains that the company is aware of, and inspired by the recent rise of mobile apps. They wish not just to improve their in-flight experience but to also improve their ground and digital services. In today’s world, that would be impossible to do without expanding into the world of mobile applications.

The travel industry itself continues to expand rapidly with millennial and singles, the very same people who use mobile apps most frequently, accounting for a significant amount of business. With more than 50 per cent of Lufthansa’s own passengers already choosing to check in online or use mobile boarding passes, it seems that the Apple Watch Lufthansa App is much needed and, like the Apple Watch, will be used by the masses.

The Apple Watch Lufthansa App is available now for free download from the App Store.
