Fiji Fashion Week and FJFW LIVE Blogging

I am extremely excited to be invited to be a LIVE blogger for this year’s much anticipated Fiji Fashion Week (FJFW) from May 25th-30th. The weeklong events are happening in Fiji’s capital, Suva, and will host both emerging and establish designers from across the globe. Renowned designers such as Robert Kennedy, Hubfeld Hoerder, Marika Deku, and Dena Burton will display their collections in one or all of the following categories: Resort Wear, Trendsetter, and Bridal Couture.

Seasoned veterans aren’t the only ones who will get their chance to shine. There’s also a student designers category for all of the youth who aspire to be fashion designers. There will be plenty of youth at Fiji Fashion Week as children’s wear will also be shown.

Scheduled Events

Monday kicked off with a press conference and a showing of the film: Dior and I. Tuesday hosted a Student Fashion and Design Forum at Fiji National University (FNU) Raiwai. The guest speaker will be Dena Burton, the LA-based fashion designer. Wednesday gives way to a charity luncheon at Hotel Novotel Suva Lami Bay. Thursday is the Resort Wear Fashion Show, Friday is the Trendsetter Fashion Show, and Saturday is the Bridal Couture and Student Designer Fashion Show.

LIVE Blogging

As for coverage of FJFW, LIVE bloggers will be assigned to specific designers in which they will be given backstage #BOH access to see the collections close-up as well as be given the chance to interview the designers face-to-face.

Once the fashion show starts, the LIVE bloggers will have the opportunity to critique the clothing as they hit the runway. Think of it as written commentary in real time. All of this will be done on FJFW’s Tumblr page while photos of the collection are simultaneously being uploaded.

Phillipa Steele

Who will be this year’s breakout model? It was no surprise that Fijian model, Phillipa Steele, who made her debut at Fiji Fashion Week in 2012, has gone on to join Trump Model Management with her exotic looks and charm. Stay tuned for more details on FJFW and don’t forget to check out my South Pacific Fashion Blog.
