Japan: First Robot Operated Hotel Opens for Business

Walking to the front desk of hotel to check in most people expect to see a human being behind the desk. A human being whose job it is to check you in to room, and make sure that all your accommodations are satisfactory. While staying in a hotel you expect to see employees walking up and down the hallways keeping things tidy, and humans in the elevators waiting to cater to your every need. Henn-na the Japanese hotel is changing everything by going nearly human free, and being instead almost entirely robot operated.

Implementing the plan to make the most efficient hotel possible

It has taken a long time, and the vision of a few great innovators to make the dream of a hotel run by humanoid robots into a reality. The basic ideology behind the hotel is to make a hotel that is more efficient than anything that has existed previously. Robot concierge running the hotel is really only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the innovations that the Japanese hotel has implemented so far. Breakthroughs in energy in energy efficiency are a hallmark of the hotel’s futuristic nature. Some of the amazing ways that the hotel cuts energy costs and environmental impacts include rooms without refrigerators, electromagnetic powered air conditioning systems, and lights that automatically turn off when no one is in the room. There are of course the non-human members of the hotel staff creating an environment never before seen in the service industry.

The technology that makes Henn-na the fantastic robot operated hotel a possibility

At robot operated hotel Henn-na it’s more than just the front desk run by robots making waves in the way the service industry operates, there is a slew of robot running the day to day operations creating a truly one of a kind experience for guests. There is a locker room where a robotic arm assists you in storing and retrieving your belongings, a robot bellhop designed to help carry bags to the various rooms, and of course the front desk operated by three of the friendliest robots imaginable. The hotel encourages the interaction with their kind robot workers, “Please feel free to enjoy conversing with these warm and friendly robots as they efficiently go about their work.”

Changing the service industry forever with machines

Machines have always replaced jobs that humans have historically done, so this isn’t the first time robots have proven themselves equal or better to the people who they are replacing, but this is the first time an entire hotel has been almost entirely run by robots. Japan’s Henn-na may be the first robot operated hotel, but with current trends in technology it certainly won’t be the last.
