A new Facebook feature called Photo Magic allows the social networking site is to scan your photos for recognizable faces even before you upload them. In the past, Facebook did scan photos for recognizable faces, but only after they were uploaded onto the internet. This new ‘Photo Magic’ feature has generated a mixed response because it transcends the walls of the application and has access to users’ camera rolls.

New Facebook Feature: Photo Magic

According to Facebook, this new Facebook feature makes sharing easier. They claim that it is still challenging to share pictures with friends, and harder still to gather all the ones that users are in, so they’ve decided to test out the feature in Australia.

If the results are positive, it’s a possibility that this new Facebook feature will roll out worldwide.

Photo Magic May Not Be that Bad

Despite the fact that Facebook may be making some users uncomfortable, it’s possible that this actually makes Facebook experience more favorable. Finding all pictures where users are tagged can help users actually increase security by notifying them where they are and if they want this content on the internet. The fact that this new Facebook feature goes to the extent of scanning the picture even before the ‘upload’ button gets hit is still jarring.
