TAG Heuer is bringing the first real luxury competitor to the Apple Watch: The TAG Heuer Connected. The Swiss-made smart watch comes with an Intel chip and a Google platform, and it’s already making for long queues down Fifth Avenue.
TAG Heuer Connected Brings Three Superpowers Together
The TAG Heuer Connected smart watch brings together three men: Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of TAG Heuer, Brian Krzanich, CEO of Intel and David Singleton, VP of Engineering for Android at Google. The collaboration even brings in CEO and majority shareholder of LVMH Möet Hennessy Louis Vuitton Bernard Arnault, whose conglomerate owns TAG Heuer. This combination makes for a powerful team, and it’s only to be expected that they bring a real luxury smart watch to the market.
It’ll clearly be marketed to a different audience than the Apple Watch, and for a much longer price tag.
TAG Heuer Connected Isn’t Meant to be A Fashion Watch
The TAG Heuer Connected wil come with three different faces and a variety of straps in different colours, but it’s not meant to be a fashion item. TAG Heuer is looking to market the device as a high-end horological accessory, not just a smart watch, with entirely different specifications to bring something fresh to a market that’s doing similar things toward a different goal.
The watch is modeled after the TAG Heuer Carrera, which was first introduced in 1963 and endorsed by celebrities like Leo DiCaprio. Unfortunately, the TAG Heuer Connected, like the TAG Heuer Carerra, will be a men-only watch. The watch’s diameter will be 46.2mm and 12.8mm wide, so it’ll be enormous, though it’ll be light. TAG Heuer have hinted at their intention to make a version of the watch for women.
A Marriage Between Watch Valley and Silicon Valley
The watch looks to be very agreeable, the large screen allows for easy navigation. The TAG Heuer Connected also doesn’t go into sleep mode, it only dims. It handles emails, texts, calls, maps, search and translation, and it’s also waterproof. It comes with 4GB of storage, and the battery life is about a day of continued use.
