A new bill has recently been passed, by The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Environmental Protection Agency, and it will pave the way for more vintage cars. It will allow companies, like Superformance, an easier time when selling replica vehicles.

WHY THE BILL MAKES IT EASIER FOR SUPERFORMANCE TO SELL REPLICA CARS

The bill passed made it so vintage cars will no longer have to meet the crash safety standards or state pollution tests. However, it did say that these cars still had to pass the emission rules of vehicles. The new bill also gives a limit of 325 reproductions of vehicles over 25 years old for a given company. Dave Smith, the president for the company Factory Five, stated that many manufacturers only make around 5 to 10 of these replicas a year. He mentions how he could only see two companies meeting this limit. He mentions themselves and Superformance as the only two.

SUPERFORMANCE EXCITED ABOUT THIS NEW BILL

Before this bill, customers were required to install custom powertrains to make the replica cars follow the law. However, this bill eliminates that and Superformance could not be happier. The company’s CEO, Lance Stander, mentioned how now their customers can just come in and purchase the car. He said it will act just like purchasing a normal car. This could also streamline insurance, registration, and financing options, he said.

SUPERFORMANCE SET TO MAKE CERTAIN MODELS

The company has already announced some of the models that they plan on offering. They state that they are going to be offering licensed versions of the Shelby Cobra, Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, and the Ford GT40. This is just the start as many more can be expected to be announced. This is going to make life easier for not only Superformance but for any companies that offer replica version vehicles.
