More Climate Refugees Are Everywhere – A New Catastrophe of 21st Century

More Climate Refugees

The U.N. Climate conference outside of Paris is getting some major attention. There are more and more climate refugees every day, and this is slowly becoming a natural catastrophe. Many members of the conference talked about this issue at the meeting. There was also optimism from some of the members that a deal would be getting done shortly. Let’s hope so, because as the members point out this is an important issue.

Rainy day More Climate Refugees

MORE CLIMATE REFUGEES EVERYWHERE

Climate change is becoming a very serious subject. William Lacy, the director of the International Organization for Migration, mentioned how the world has not seen this much-forced migration since World War II. That is a scary reality and it is worse than most people think. The head of the Norwegian Refugee Council even went on record and said that every second someone is forced to migrate due to climate change. To put in perspective how many people are affected by this, the Genevabased Internal Displacement Monitoring Center stated that over 19 million people are forced to leave their homes because of weather.

OPTIMISM THAT A DEAL WILL GET DONE

Achim Steiner, the director of the United Nations Environment Program, stated that only three or four issues remain that need to be addressed. He said that the major issue that remains is the fact that some nations are rich and some are poor. Ban Ki-moon was another who thought an agreement was close. He stated that he is indeed reasonable optimistic that a deal could be done by Friday. John Kerry, U.S. Secretary of State, states that the critical stage is under way. The people in the world who have faced the after effects of climate change are in trouble. As mentioned earlier, millions have already been forced out of their homes. An agreement needs to be reached by all who are involved quickly.
