NASA is Talking About Star Wars While XPRIZE is Exploring Ocean Mysteries

Anyone who thought Star Wars couldn’t become more popular is wrong. It now appears that NASA is actually talking about it. Also, the XPRIZE Foundation recently launched a global competition for companies to map the seafloor and explore ocean mysteries. The winner of this competition is set to make a good amount of money as well.

NASA SAYS THEY CAN MAKE A STAR WARS DEATH STAR

What seems like a science fiction dream could soon be a reality. A NASA engineer, Brian Muirhead, actually stated that the company could one day build their own Death Star. He states that this could be possible because of asteroids. Muirhead says that asteroids would give them the necessary metals to make it. Organic compounds, water, and all of the building blocks are present to eventually build a custom Death Star.

A PETITION FOR NASA FUNDING A STAR WARS DEATH STAR

A few years ago there was actually a White House petition to ask for them to invest in making a Death Star by 2016. However, this was shut down as the White House did not deem this a good idea to waste money on. Some comments from members of the White House included that The Administration does not support planets begin blown up. They also asked the people, who made the petition, why on earth they would spend so much money on a Death Star. It sounds like a fun idea, but NASA can not expect the White House to pitch in.

STAR WARS POPULARITY IS MIND BLOWING

It is truly amazing to think that an organization as big as NASA is even talking about Star Wars. Star Wars has truly become a global phenomenon and I do not think people realize how widespread it is. The upcoming movie is only helping matters, but even before then it was extremely popular. If NASA does eventually make their own Death Star, then it can be rest assured that Star Wars will hit even a new level of popularity. That is almost hard to imagine.

XPRIZE WANTS OCEAN MYSTERIES SOLVED

The global competition to solve ocean mysteries was announced by XPRIZE earlier this week. They mention that they want to know more about oceans. The chairman of the company actually pointed out that they know more about the surface of Mars than the oceans. XPRIZE mentions how the teams involved will need to present a durable robotic vehicle that can be operated on the surface of the ocean. Then, they will be required to map the sea floor and document high-resolution images.

XPRIZE OFFERING GREAT PRIZES TO WINNERS

Basically, the winner of this competition will be whoever brings back the best images to help resolve some ocean mysteries. The company mentions how the quality and clarity of the images will be evaluated. XPRIZE says that the winner will receive $4 million and the runner-up will receive $1 million. However, the prizes do not end there. An additional prize of $1 million was announced by The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. They state that whoever can bring back a trace of a chemical or biological signal will receive the prize.

WILL SOME OF THE OCEAN MYSTERIES BE REVEALED?

Hopefully, after this competition has ended, the world will have a better understanding on what really takes place on the oceans surface. There is no doubt that this is the intent of this event. After this event, XPRIZE should no more than what they did beforehand. If not, then this entire competition will be deemed a failure.
