Philips is set up to bring in more profit in the coming months, but probably not in the way they wanted. They announced that they are removing third party support for their Hue bridge. Now, only light bulbs produced from Philips can be used with the Hue. Philips is not the only company that is making more money unintentionally. Apple is making more money with its charges. In specific the way the lightning cable charges.
PHILLIPS ANNOUNCES REMOVAL OF THIRD PARTY SUPPORT FOR LIGHT BULBS
So, why did Philips decide to end third party support for light bulbs with their Hue bridge? The company stated that third party light bulbs were not working very well. They were experiencing various issues while being used with the Hue. One example is they were not turning off correctly. The company mentions that third party light bulbs just did not look good working with the Hue. Now, users will not have to worry about that because now they are not compatible.
WHY PHILIPS WILL MAKE MORE MONEY WITHOUT THIRD PARTY LIGHT BULBS
Now that users can not use any different light bulbs than the one’s Philips provides for their Hue, Philips will see their sales increase. Consumers have no other way to make their Hue device work now that Philips has done this. Either, they are going to do this or they will not use their device again. However, the company did state that only a few users will be affected by this.
ONE OF THE ISSUES WITH APPLE: THE WAY THE LIGHTING CABLE CHARGES
Apple offers their lightning cable to charge their iPhones, iPads, and other devices. However, the problem is they are not good at all. These cables simply do not last and many reviewers on the internet have expressed grief about it. One reviewer, in particular, went into a story about how he experienced issues with the way the cable charges every day. He even said that he opened up a package with three brand new lightning cables and two of them did not work. He said the cable would randomly not charge and would quit working. The expiration life of these cables is not long. The reviewer said he had bought several cables and they lasted around a month or so.
WHY APPLE IS MAKING MORE MONEY WITH THE WAY THEIR CABLE CHARGES
This one is quite simple, but the fact that consumers have to keep re-purchasing this lightning cable means Apple makes more money. There is no other way to charge some of your Apple devices than with a lightning cable. Now, third party cables are accessible, but third-party products are not generally that good. Apple charges $19 for their lightning cable for anybody who needs to buy a replacement!
APPLE AND PHILIPS NEED TO RESOLVE THESE ISSUES
I previously stated that third-party products are not generally as good as first-party products. However, this does not mean that they are useless because they are often cheaper. Philips needs to get their third-party compatibility fixed and up again. The same goes with Apple as they need to resolve this ongoing issue with their lightning cable.
I really do not think that Apple intended to make their lightning cable so bad. I also do not think that Philips only took down third-party compatibility just for more sales of their light bulbs. However, it is still not a good way to make money. This kind if revenue could come off as a little cheap, but I guess it is a dog eat dog world out there.
