Wait, did I go back in time? Back in the day, cartridge-based consoles were the real deal and if you did not have one you were missing out. However, the world has not seen this type of technology since the critically acclaimed Nintendo 64. However, now the world is about to see another one as Coleco has announced their new ColecoVision.

COLECO ANNOUNCES NEW COLECOVISION CONSOLE

Coleco was a gaming company back in the day and they were struggling. Back in the 1980’s, they released their ColecoVision. The problem is it was not very popular, and they went bankrupt later in the decade. Since then, they were re-formed and now they have announced the Coleco Chameleon. This new console is a cartridge-based console and it will have modern day technology, with a classic approach in mind. Retro Video Game Systems is teaming up with Coleco to make this console. Sometime next year this console can be expected.

THE COLECOVISION A THROWBACK TO CARTRIDGE-BASED CONSOLES

As mentioned earlier, this will be a cartridge-based console. The company has announced that this new take on the ColecoVision will play both old and new games. This console will be able to play compilations of previous popular games. However, the company also stated they will make new 8, 16, and 32-bit styles of video games. No word has been said about backwards compatibility, though.

THIS CARTRIDGE-BASED CONSOLE IS THE FIRST SINCE THE NINTENDO 64

The Nintendo 64 was a console that was created nearly 20 years ago. It was, and still is, one of the greatest video game consoles of all-time. It is my second favorite system of all time, behind another cartridge-based console the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. This news has me, and many others, extremely excited.

WHY CARTRIDGE-BASED CONSOLE GAMES WERE THE BEST

In my opinion, video games have not been the same for the last 10-15 years. Sure, there have been some good video games but the consistency of video games back in the day can not be matched. Games like Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Bros. 3, Mega Man X, Donkey Kong Country, Banjo-Kazooie, etc. I could go on forever with this list. Hopefully, Coleco can be a little more successful this time than they were in the 1980’s. However, it may be tough because the world has not seen anything like this in around 20 years.
