The most recent headline on Konami is that they are working alongside Sony for the next PS4 exclusive, which is rumored be pretty big. After the Konami-Kojima separation was confirmed, Kojima Productions was launched as an independent company.

Hideo Kojima is a gaming genius, and that’s no news to anyone. The Metal Gear Solid series has a lot of new bases to cover in any upcoming installments. Konami has even sent out announcements about hiring talent to work on the next chapter in the series.

What Caused the Kojima-Konami Split?

The issues between Hideo Kojima and the Japanese gaming giant started in the first part of 2015. The box art released for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain had Hideo Kojima’s name removed, despite the fact that Kojima put a lot of work into it.

The Scandal Got Worse at the 2015 Game Awards

On top of that, Kojima was not allowed to attend this years’ Game Awards to accept the award for Best Action Adventure and Best Soundtrack for Metal Gear Solid V. Things got even more tense when Game Awards host Geoff Keighley commented that Konami lawyers had prevented him from entering the event. On a totally different note, Konami claimed Kojima had gone on vacation.

There are better things awaiting Kojima from now onward. There’s a rumor circulating about Kojima being banned from talking about the split because of his contract.

Thanks to this scandal, Metal Gear Solid V got quite a bit of attention, making it one of 2015’s biggest hits. And now that Kojima Productions is set out to make a PS4 exclusive it looks like they’ll have a pretty good run. We could even go as far to say that because of the nature of the split, Kojima Productions will do everything in their power to make Konami regret neglecting his talent. 2016 is going to be a very interesting year for gaming, that’s for sure.
