Apple and Google Destroyed Microsoft’s Windows Phone Clapway

Microsoft is gaining some victories thanks to the Surface Pro 4, but Apple and Google have made it hard for Microsoft’s Windows Phone to take flight. Microsoft holds only 1.7% of the entirety of the smartphone market, the rest shared between Apple and Alphabet Inc, Google’s parent company.

Windows Phone Clapway

Can Microsoft’s Windows Phone Compete?

As things stand, the only way to get a Windows 10 Mobile is to buy one of Microsoft’s Windows phones. That includes only the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950XL smartphones. The software is not supported by older Lumia models yet, but those updates are reportedly rolling out soon.

Both phones have received quite good reviews in terms of hardware, but the operating system is too limited for it to sell at the level of Apple and Google. People will naturally be more drawn to a name like ‘iPhone’ or ‘Samsung’ than they would be to the words ‘Microsoft’s Windows Phone’. Apple and Google have spent a long time building their reputation, and it will take some time before Microsoft gets that kind of recognition in that market.

Microsoft Could Shift their Strategy

The easy answer to Microsoft’s Windows phone problem is to allow other original equipment manufacturers. Beyond that, they could also sell their smartphones outside of Microsoft stores.

New reports have revealed that Microsoft will be pushing updates directly to phones and tablets manufactured by third party OEMs. This is definitely a step in the right direction, and the updates will be getting to handsets as opposed to carriers first.

Samsung Surface Pro 4 Brought Microsoft Great Acclaim

There are some devices that run on Windows 10. Most notably, Samsung’s Surface Pro 4. The new tablet runs Windows instead of Android OS. Microsoft has all the right ingredients to succeed in many markets. It juts hasn’t out them together in the right way. As the market progresses and branches out, Microsoft’s Windows phone may become a serious contenders to the giants.

If these strategies still don’t bear fruit, it’s not like Microsoft is losing much. Windows 10 is becoming more and more popular as its updates improve its quality. So if Microsoft can’t succeed through hardware, it can knock down the competition with software.
