2 Reasons Why People May Start Dying More Quickly Due To Water Scarcity Clapway

For those of us who have more than enough water than we need, we typically don’t realize how much water we waste. For example, leaving your faucet running constantly when you’re doing dishes or brushing your teeth. How about taking 20-minute showers every day, and sometimes longer. All of this water that we waste, billions around the world would love to have. There was some startling new research that was taken and it revealed that people may start dying at an accelerated rate, due to lack of water.

2 Reasons Why People May Start Dying More Quickly Due To Water Scarcity Clapway

FIRST REASON: THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WITHOUT IT

There was a study taken by Arjen Hoekstra and Mesfin Mekonnen, from the University of Twente in the Netherlands, and they used a global model to measure the water availability for people. The numbers revealed that around four billion people have a scarcity of it, at least, one month a year. However, around half a billion experience this throughout the entire year. The researchers of the study stated how this number was higher than initially thought and that is a scary thought. If this doesn’t get fixed soon, then there is no doubt that the dying rates due to this will increase. It’s obvious that you need water to survive, and if you don’t have it you will end up dying. This is a simple fact, but, unfortunately, many people have this problem.

SECOND REASON: FOOD SECURITY

One of the researchers of this study, Hoekstra, pointed out the fact that this will also lead to food scarcity. The lack of water will impact the farmers and then this will lead to food scarcity, says Hoekstra. So, if regions end up getting a lack of rainfall then this can seriously affect their crops. More people are going to start dying because of this, and that is a scary realization.
