In a rare showing of camaraderie, Facebook has backed up their competitor Apple in the recent controversy surrounding encryption. CEO Mark Zuckerberg expressed his belief that technology companies should not be required to create “backdoors” for agencies like the FBI to gain intelligence. Considering he did just that for the NSA at one point is beside the point for now. Zuckerberg is not the enemy now. Of course, that has changed to Donald Trump.
DESPITE IRONY, FACEBOOK BELIEVES IN ENCRYPTION
Facebook has had their share of security related issues, but currently, they are strong believers in encryption. Agreeing with Apple, they believe that backdoors will not help to increase security as the FBI thinks it will. What he did state, however, is that Facebook is somewhat responsible for national security. Any terrorist related comment or activity seen on Facebook will be dealt with accordingly, says Zuckerberg. Despite their lack of cooperation, Zuckerberg assured the government that safety is a priority.
U.S TECH INDUSTRY STANDS BEHIND APPLE ON SECURITY
Besides Facebook, numerous companies in the U.S tech industry have lined up with efforts to support Apple. Google was one of the first and most vocal of the companies to stand up for their competitor. CEO Sundar Pichai agreed that allowing hacking from government agencies would compromise the privacy of the users, creating a major concern for the country.
DONALD TRUMP LEADS BOYCOTT AND SIDES WITH FBI
Not that this should surprise anyone, but Donald Trump isn’t thinking logically once again. After Apple’s refusal to cooperate with the FBI, Donald Trump had to blow his horn. This call to action came from the FBI’s request to unlock the iPhone of one of the San Bernardino shooters. To Donald Trump, he thinks this will magically end the reign of terrorism in America. The privacy of his voters doesn’t seem to bother him much. His friends at the FBI seem to take priority. Oh yeah, almost forgot. All of Donald Trump’s tweets following his boycott request were made on…you guessed it. An Apple iPhone.
