Tesla Has What it Needs To Be Better Than Google Self-Driving Car Clapway

Google is far from the only contender in the self-driving game. A recent report shows that Tesla Motors has an autonomous whip of their own. The Model S steered itself on a grueling 50-mile course that raced through freeways, winded through rural by-ways and handled city driving with ease. The success of the Model S was so great that reviews are calling it the clear winner among autonomous vehicles.

TESLA AUTO STEER PERFORMS WITH INCREDIBLE RESULTS

A reporter took the Tesla Model S on a 61-mile drive to test just how well its auto steer function worked. Along the road which passed through several cities and amongst a good bit of paranoia, the driver expressed that he didn’t steer or use the pedals once. The Model S even changes lanes by itself by a simple tap of the blinker. Other cars on the road were none the wiser. The Tesla slowed down and accelerated accordingly. It operated with the striking resemblance to that of a human, and it shouldn’t be long before this technology is commonplace.

BAD NEWS FOR GOOGLE: TEST CAR GETS IN CRASH

This raving review of the Tesla autopilot came at an opportune time for the company. Previously, the Google self-driving car was at the top spot in terms of safety, however, this has just changed. An accident report in California was filed recently that blames a Google self-driving car for hitting a public bus on Valentines day. Though no one was injured it shows that Google still has some kinks to work out with their technology. They say the accident was a result of a common misunderstanding that human drivers would have. Isn’t the point to avoid these misunderstandings, though?

AUTONOMOUS DRIVING WILL BE HERE SOON

According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, autonomous driving will be here within two or three years. Beyond the auto steer feature, Musk says that company can make vehicles that will be summoned across the country. Driverless cars will be able to drive from state to state, even stopping to charge themselves on the way. Musk noted that a few advancements in technology are still being built for this to occur. It will be interesting to see what Google does in the coming years to combat issues of their own and fend off new contenders in the burgeoning market.
