Facebook and Google Team up to Make the World Better Clapway

Two giants of tech decided to put their competitive differences aside in the sake of a better world. Google has teamed up with Facebook’s Open Compute Project that will help cloud data centers cut their energy bills.

IT TURNS OUT FACEBOOK DOES HAVE A SOUL

Facebook started the OCP several years ago. Their intent was to get companies working together to make their own data center equipment. This would save the production of unneeded features as they help keep costs low for  vendor products. Big time cloud providers recognized Facebook’s brilliance and jumped aboard, Google, however, stayed on the sidelines. That is, until now. Their added support (and money of course) will make the OCP a dominating force.

GOOGLE SOUPS UP OPEN COMPUTER PROJECT

Armed to the teeth with binders full of data, Google will deploy them. The technology is now ready for chronic use. With the higher voltage Google is bringing, Facebook’s OCP can handle the intense workload. The two new buddies apparently designed it together and Facebook may even use all 48 racks in their own data centers. For two companies that compete as much as they do, this is a huge development. Even Apple has joined in on the fun, creating a Justice League-esque group for tech. Now they just need a super villain.

AMAZON BECOMES TECH SUPERVILLAIN

While Google lets down its guard and teams up with the best in OCP, Amazon remains defiant. Amazon is one of the biggest hyper-scale cloud providers and they are nowhere near the OCP. This project provides all kinds of opportunities for large-scale operations to save costs. Everything will become more simple and condensed. This, of course, is good for the world and not just for tech. As Superman would say, learning to conserve resources and work together is the type of attitude the world needs to see real progress. It’s wasteful for every mega company to be doing their own thing, using up valuable resources. By setting aside their greed and banding together, not only will the accomplish their goals but will do less work. Maybe Amazon thinks they are too big for a team. It’s true their infrastructure is ever growing, but going it alone is never the best method. Their power will be put to better use with a team if they come around.
