Yahoo: 5 Cool Facts About The Company Clapway

Whether you love them or you hate them, there is no denying that Yahoo has developed a cult following over the years. They have been around for quite a while, and this longevity has led to some really cool facts. Among the coolest facts, though, are the following five.

FIRST FACT

In order to keep track of their own interests online, Jerry Yang and David Filo first started Yahoo. I wonder if these two imagined that their creation would balloon into a worldwide phenomenon? There is no way that they would have, but 22 years later it is obvious that they exceeded their expectations.

SECOND FACT

When these two gentlemen created Yahoo, they actually named their project “Jerry’s Guide to the World Wide Web”. It is a good thing that they decided to go with the name Yahoo because the former is a long and boring title!

THIRD FACT

Did you know that Yahoo almost bought Google? Before they officially went public, the owners were thinking about doing this. However, they ultimately decided that spending billions of dollars was just too much. I can’t say that I blame them, but I wonder if they would have changed their minds if they knew how big Google would become?

FOURTH FACT

Speaking of Google, once upon a time Yahoo actually used their technologies for the realization of their search system. However, way back in 2004, all of these agreements were canceled. It is a shame for them too because it is always a good idea to have Google’s help with anything.

FIFTH FACT

In 2006, Yahoo received heavy criticism for their safe search feature. The issue was that sexually explicit images were still being shown, even with the safe search on. Then, less than a year later, their search feature was shut down and replaced with Flickr.
