For those of you who are unaware, Ikea is a group of companies that sell vehicles, furniture, home appliances, and other accessories. Whether you are a fan of them or not is irrelevant because here are ten things that you probably didn’t know about the company.

10. IKEA PUBLISHED CATALOGS

If anybody makes a list that talks about the most famous books in history, The Bible would no doubt make the list. This is what makes the statistic you are about to read even more startling. In 2012, there were more Ikea catalogs sold than there were Bibles. This is hard to believe, and it tells you a little something about the company.

9. CHINA

The citizens of China have the best privilege of anybody when it comes to Ikea. In the aforementioned country, customers can actually come into the store and nap on their furniture. Not only is this a great way to test out their products, but this is also perfect for those who just want to chill!

8. WOOD SUPPLY

This fact will not blow your mind, but it is still something that is worth noting. The company Ikea actually uses around one percent of the global commercial wood supply. It may not seem like a lot, but one percent of a huge amount is still huge.

7. IT’S ILLEGAL

OK, so you are probably wondering where I am getting at with this one. Yes, Ikea is indeed illegal, but not in the way you think. In Sweden, it is actually illegal to name your child Ikea. I bet you a million dollars that you were not expecting that, and if you were then I guess I need to go talk to my bank.

6. THE FOUNDER IS FRUGAL

Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of Ikea, is actually a very frugal person. For many years, he drove a very old Volvo car, he recycles tea bags, he flies coach, and he actually takes salt and pepper packets from restaurants. Considering he is the founder of a major company, it seems odd that he is like this.

5. THE IKEABOT

MIT is very instrumental in the success of Ikea. Did you know that they created the Ikeabot for the company to use? What this does is assemble the furniture for them, and without it, they may have been in deep water.

4. CONCEIVED EUROPEANS

It has been said that 1 in 10 Europeans is conceived in an Ikea bed. This is a pretty crazy statistic, and I guess that Ikea has the best lover beds on the market!

Ikea is supposed to be a company that produces home furniture and appliances. So, with this in mind, would it shock you if I told you that they actually began to brew beer in 2012? If it doesn’t, then you are doing one of two things. One, you already knew about this fact, or two, you just lied to me!

2. IKEA HEIGHTS

Ikea filmed their own hit TV show, and nobody knows about it. In one of their stores, they actually filmed the series that they called “Ikea Heights”. This has not been released, and one has to wonder if the company would ever consider doing so.

Even though the product names at Ikea may appear random, there is actually a logical system behind them. Their beds and wardrobes are named after places in Norway, like the Fjell. Their coffee tables and bookshelves are named after places in Sweden, like the Kilby. Lastly, their dining tables and chairs are named after places in Finland, like the Anglo.
