Blackberry Priv is Even More Dead than Apple iPhone SE

Blackberry Priv is Even More Dead than Apple iPhone SE Clapway

In an attempt to once again become relevant, Blackberry took a major gamble with Android. Based on their fiscal fourth quarter results, that gamble hasn’t exactly paid off. The Priv smartphone was good in theory, but unfortunately, the Canadian company is seeing it join the dead ranks of smartphones like Apple’s iPhone SE.

BLACKBERRY HANDSET SALES DROP

In software and service areas, Blackberry looks to be swimming along quite well. However, the fourth quarter sales of the company show falling sales. Blackberry sold just 600,000 units last quarter signifying the death of their smartphones. While there-there is a chance for sales to pick up in 2016, it’s more likely the Priv will go to the great smartphone in the sky with Apple’s SE. If they want to avoid this, CEO John Chen said they need to sell three million handsets. That’s just to break-even.

ANDROID PLAN FAILS FOR PRIV

Blackberry saw an initial burst of sales when they released the Android-powered Prix, but it has since failed to deliver. The companies follow-up device is going to continue using Android in an attempt to conquer the mid-range device market. Chen has come to the realization that the higher-end market is no place for BlackBerry, and it’s starting to look like the mid-range isn’t very welcoming either. The area is incredibly price-sensitive and the Priv is offering adequate features at a higher price than comparable handsets. It seems like we are watching a slow, downward spiral for the Priv. Many may consider it just as dead as Apple’s iPhone SE.

APPLE IPHONE SE TO BE IGNORED

The recent release of the SE was expected to attract new customers to Apple. The affordable, four-inch smartphone was attractive, but it seems many consumers are ignoring it to wait for the 7. The iPhone 7 will essentially be better in every way than the iPhone SE. The iPhone 7 will have a bigger screen, better resolution, better specs and a price that will likely be frozen. The smaller variant may seem cheaper at first, but in terms of value for the money, Apple will see the majority of buyers opt for the swanky 7.
