Dark Side of the Moon is Full of Mysteries

Dark Side of the Moon is Full of Mysteries Clapway

Whether you are talking about the physical dark side of the moon or the Pink Floyd album of the same name, both are shrouded in mystery. For example, why is the overrated latter so popular? Musical opinions aside, if you’d really like to investigate some of the lesser-known lunar qualities, you would think a trip up there would be necessary. Not so. We can now explore the lunar surface  from the comfort of home.

PUT WORLD’S MOST ACCURATE MOON GLOBE IN YOUR HOME

It’s easy to look up at that big, glimmering lunar beacon in the sky and feel overwhelming depression. As beautiful and mysterious as it is, many of us will never get a chance to set foot on the moon. Wikipedia can only tell us so much about the place, and watching footage of it just isn’t quite the hands on experience we want. If only there was a way to obtain a topographically precise lunar globe for your home. Oh wait, there is a way. The aptly named MOON is the most accurate lunar globe in the world. Using NASA’s  topographic data, electronic engineering and master craftsmanship, the lunar mysteries will be yours to solve.

WHERE SCIENCE MEETS ART

This isn’t just a traditional 2D picture of the lunar surface. It’s an accurate replica featuring every crater, elevation, and ridge. With a ring of LED lights revolving around, the correct face of the moon will be illuminated and the various lunar phases can be recreated. The combination of the 3D terrain with the LED light sources makes this a unique piece of art. All the lunar features we see from Earth are brought to life by their shadows and for the first time, you can truly see the far side of the moon.

HOW IT’S MADE

In order to create the lunar globe, a team at the Institute of Planetary Research was contacted. They agreed to give the creator access to a large part of their database. They data found is DTM (Digital Terrain Model) and is built from stereo images. After tinkering with the file in order to create an accurate scale of terrain and shape, it was 3D printed into the final object we see today. Stop relying on the opinions of others to solve your lunar woes. Just get the real thing and see for yourself.
