NASA to Help Martians Use Skype

NASA to Help Martians Use Skype Clapway

E.T. call home? NASA may be a Skype call away for Martians. If they can find Martians roaming the Red Planet. NASA’s old Deep Space Network (DSN) once gathered data. Even Dial-up may be more reliable than the old DSN. DSN is a network of 50-year-old radio antennas located around the world. But NASA has made a recent tech upgrade. Placing data-driven analytical systems on NASA’s Mars Rover, “Curiosity.” Allowing real-time analytics to help find ancient life on Mars.

NASA’s Real Time Analytics

Elasticsearch technology is used by Netflix and Goldman Sachs. And it is now in the hands of NASA. They are using the Elasticsearch analytics system to plan and make adjustments to the Mars rover in almost real time. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Labs run the daily planning operation with Curiosity sending four daily uploads. All processed by Elasticsearch. The Mars data includes Martian surface temperature, atmospheric composition, and the rover’s equipment status. The real-time analytics help the Martian rover team make faster decisions. It also plays a big role in scientific discovery on Mars. This has big implications for Mars research.

Could Martians Skype Using NASA Curiosity Rover?

Skype on Mars may not seem as unrealistic as before. The Mars rover Curiosity is a selfie superstar. Since landing in Martian territory in 2012. With more than two million Twitter followers, Curiosity is popular. The Elasticsearch inspired analytics system will also be used for a 2020 Mars mission. Aimed at finding evidence of an ancient Martian civilization. Skype could be next. As technology for real-time analytics continues to evolve. Earthlings may be surprised to see a Martian on Curiosity’s camera very soon. But for now, the upcoming technology may allow a future colony to Skype earth.

What Would a Martian Skype Call Look Like?

The Curiosity rover has an HD camera and high-tech sensors. This allows it to move and shoot selfies. It also rotates its camera for amazing photos. Martians would most likely be curious figures. Found on the end of Curiosity’s Skype camera. If they exist. Would they be as frustrated as humans with a bad connection? What if a Mars dust storm interrupts an important Skype meeting with NASA?
