Amazon Echo digital assistant can now add events to Google Calendar. Using the voice-controlled helper, just saying a simple phrase will add events via the Alexa software agent. Before one can take full advantage of the software, you’ll need to enable the “link Google Calendar account” in the Alexa app. The significant move means that Alexa is beginning to squeeze in on Google’s Android territory.

The Amazon Echo was first seen as a tool to help consumers shop on Amazon. Scheduling events had very little to do with it. Now with this addition with calendar and other features like getting an Uber ride from echo, it’s looking like Amazon is evolving echo into something bigger. Aa new patent issued to Apple shows a method for a user recognition engine that shows how Siri reacts to a certain person. For example, Apple’s Siri could recognize that a certain person had observed specific content on the device in the past. From there, it can favor that content in how it replies. The updates are impressive but it might not be enough to compete with the dominant Echo.
