Nickodemus: 3 Cool Facts about the Artist

Nickodemus Clapway

Nickodemus is an electronic, hip-hop, funk/soul DJ from New York City. That much you know but he has lived quite a mysterious life throughout his career. While he continues forth, creating creative, groovy music lets take some time to uncover his secrets. Start off with these three cool facts.

1. NICKODEMUS GOT HIS NAME FROM THE BIBLE

The band name Nickodemus originally comes from Nicodemus. Nicodemus is a Pharisee mentioned three different times in the Gospel of John. The bible describes Nicodemus as an educated and intelligent individual. However, he’s rather skeptical of the new Christian faith at first. Regardless of that, Nicodemus is a saint in various Eastern churches and in the Roman Catholic Church. His legacy continues in many prominent art forms found throughout history. In 1967, Martin Luther King used Nicodemus as a metaphor for the U.S. to be “born again”.

2. NICKODEMUS GETS SPIRITUAL

Generic DJ’s blasting 4/4 beats on repeat are a dime a dozen in New York City. Nickodemus does not belong to this group, however. He adds complex musical and spiritual elements to his mix. This belief can best be exemplified through his symbol, the sun. In 2009, he released an album called Sun People. This is for people who love the sunshine and the bright feelings that associate with it. Hence, to him, the sun makes the best out of every situation and gives us positive feelings to take on the day.

3. NICKODEMUS IS THE GOD OF DJ’S

The electronic music genre is an oversaturated cesspool of filth most of the times but those who make it are something special. Nick has been touring as a DJ and collaborating with other musicians since 1996. He’s been a mainstay of the NYC dance music scene and helped bring it to where it is today. Furthermore, he has credits as a successful producer and remixer, helping aspiring DJ’s to hone their craft and bring quality music to the scene.
