Snapchat has been going through some issues with Live feeds, sending and receiving messages from friends and updates in the Discover widget. The Discover section for companies like the Food Network and CNN have been faulty as well. The company has been working on solving these issues since Monday night, to now avail.

A Boring Few Days for People Under 24 All Over the World

This isn’t the first time that the service has been faulty, but this is the most widespread bug since Snapchat introduced ads to its platform. This means that thanks to this bug, Snapchat is potentially losing millions in revenue for itself and for the 20 publishers that are on its Discover widget that benefit from ad revenue.

Publishers update content once a day, and it’s possible that none of them were able to display their content properly thanks to this bump on the road. There are only three apps in the entirety of the entirety of the internet that stream as much content as Snapchat, if not more. These forces are the strongest in the web: YouTube, Facebook and Google. Besides these titans, this service accounts for more mobile data usage in high traffic times in North America than any other service online.

Snapchat Lag is Due to A Google App Engine Outage

The only major app affected by a Google App Engine outage is Snapchat. The issues have since then been fixed. The service has become an increasingly competitive platform for social media, and as it grows, hopefully so will its stake on Google Apps, as it currently generates about $25 million for the engine. That being said, it’s also possible that it loses popularity thanks to the introduction of ads and other more ‘commercialized’ features. To be truthful, this is the only way that Snapchat can get mutual benefits from big corporations, but hopefully it will be panned out so that user experience is optimized.
