What CleanMyMac, MacKeeper and Hello Barbie Have in Common

It looks like another company has seen personal data exposed. The company that made MacKeeper stated earlier this week that a breach exposed vital information of their customers. A fairly similar, but still somewhat different program, CleanMyMac, is the better option after this. Also, speaking of data exposure, Hello Barbie recently experienced a similar incident.

MACKEEPER EXPOSES VITAL INFORMATION

The company known as Kromtech is very lucky. One security researcher was able to find the security hole and save their behind. Kromtech is the company that made MacKeeper, and it was revealed by Chris Vickery that there was a breach. Vickery, a security researcher, stated that he found the security hole while randomly browsing a search engine. During his search, he mentions that four different IP addresses were returned. Having this type of information will lead to email addresses, usernames, and other personal information being exposed. The main positive is the fact that the company stated no data had been accessed. The company also stated that they were able to fix the problem within hours to avoid any serious consequences.

WHAT IS MACKEEPER?

This application does a lot of important tasks for Mac computers. Removal of unnecessary files is one of the main tasks MacKeeper will do. However, it does not stop there. There are a built-in anti-virus protection and antitheft module present as well. The anti-virus protection is self-explanatory as it will prevent any viruses from getting onto your system. The anti-theft module will actually track your Mac computer in case it gets stolen. This will allow you to locate the thief that stole it. As far as price goes, this is not a free program and costs $39.95 for a one-year license. However, let’s take a look at a different software.

WHAT IS CLEANMYMAC

CleanMyMac is another software program that is very similar to MacKeeper. However, it is a little cheaper. CleanMyMac will only cost users around $15. This program will also allow users to remove all files that are slowing down their PC’s. This includes duplicate files, log files, cache, and any other useless files. This is a recommended program because there are thousand of files that slow down PC’s that need to be removed.

CLEANMYMAC IS A BETTER OPTION THAN MACKEEPER

Although it does not offer all that MacKeeper offers, after the latter’s security breach it is the better option. Even though the security breach did not lead to any harm, who is to say it won’t happen again? Plus, with the cheaper price, CleanMyMac is the way to go.

HELLO BARBIE EXPERIENCES DATA EXPOSURE

About one month ago, ToyTalk was hacked and Hello Barbie was revealing private conversations between her and some children. Hello Barbie uses voice response to talk with children. However, this information was being revealed. ToyTalk, since that day, stated that no security is perfect and risks are always present. The point of this is that Kromtech is not the only company to experience this type of breach. It happens, but companies still need to work on making their security better.

MACKEEPER AND HELLO BARBIE REMIND US TO BE CAREFUL

There is one major aspect to take away from this. That is that we as people need to be careful about what information we reveal through the internet. Always be aware that any information you put on the internet can be accessed in the future. Hackers are always out there and they are waiting for you to give them data that could ruin your life.
