It would be nice if every single city in the world was clean, but sadly that is not the case. There are people in this world that live in cities with horrific living conditions and extremely high levels of pollution. However, on the other side of the coin, there are people who live in cities so clean that you would be lucky to see any dust in the air.
10. FARGO
Fargo, located in North Dakota, experiences ozone levels that are well below the limit that is considered unhealthy. Not only this but Fargo also has extremely low levels of particle pollution annually.
9. DULUTH
A city located in Minnesota, Duluth, is very similar to Fargo as it has low ozone levels and particle pollution. The small size and remote location of the city also help, as well as the cold weather that Duluth experiences.
8. REDDING
California is not a state that has many cities with cleanliness, but Redding is one of them. Redding doesn’t experience the geographical bowl-effect that other cities in California experience. This makes it an actual clean place to live in California!
7. AMARILLO
You probably think I am crazy with this one because, as Dr. Samet notes, Texas is often regarded as one of the worst polluted states. However, Amarillo is an exception to this rule. Dr. Samet suggests that the amount of wind and moisture that this city receives helps its cause tremendously. The fact that people in Amarillo don’t drive great distances also helps, Dr. Samet said. So, the next time you are planning your vacation spot keep these three cities in mind.
6. ANCHORAGE
For those of you who don’t know, Anchorage is a city in Alaska. An American Lung Association medical officer, Norman Edelman, notes how this city is protected by a relatively low population. To further clear the air, he then adds the Anchorage experiences wet and cool conditions. Considering it is a city in Alaska, this is not much of a surprise.
5. HONOLULU
This city is no surprise as it is well-known for being an amazing vacation destination. Outside of the beautiful scenery and amazing beaches, this is largely due to the cleanliness of the city. Dr. Kaufman actually explains how because of the isolation that exists between Honolulu and the Pacific Ocean, the city stays away from high doses of pollution. Another doctor, Dr. Samet, also noted how the large amounts of rain that Honolulu experiences help.
4. GREAT FALLS
Great Falls is amongst the most beautiful cities in the world so it is a good thing that it is clean. Great Falls does a tremendous job of fending off projects that would affect this. One instance is when they rejected having a power plant built in their city.
3. BISMARK
Yet another North Dakota city makes it way on this list, and this time, it is Bismark. Bismark is another city that is protected by its remote location, and also, their extremely cold winters help. It seems like North Dakota is the state to live in people!
2. SANTA FE
Santa Fe is known for its tremendous art, but it is also a very clean city. Ironically enough, an artist actually made a sculpture that measures the particle pollution of the city. Santa Fe has some strict rules in place that prevent particulates, and one of them is limiting wood burning.
1. CHEYENNE
Wyoming holds the cleanest city in the United States, and its name is Cheyenne. Cheyenne clocks in with the least amount of year round particulates and the small size of the city also helps its cause.
