Google Cloud To Out-Compete Amazon

Google Cloud To Out-Compete Amazon Clapway

It doesn’t seem like anybody can really compete with Jeff Bezos at Amazon these days, but if anyone can, it’s Google. Their new cloud chief Diane Greene is not happy with their position in sales and marketing and she seeks to change things up in a big way. This could mean bad news for any competitor in her path.

GOOGLE CLOUD ON THE WARPATH

Google is usually seen as the ever dominating force in technology, which is true for the most part. In business, however, they are slacking and cloud chief Diane Green is not happy. Google Cloud is in third place. As an increasingly popular way for companies to run operations, Green wants Google Cloud to get a bigger piece of the $20 billion-a-year business. To do this they will need to massively expand their network of data centers. They will surely meet with Amazon somewhere along this war path. To Greene, the cloud is the new industrial revolution and needs to be a priority.

AMAZON ONLY GETTING BIGGER

Amazon is well aware of the importance that cloud has. They practically invented it in the late 1990’s. Amazon Web Service was created so that other companies could rent cloud space in 2015, it made $8 billion in sales making it number one on top of Microsoft and Google Cloud. Google attempted App Engine years ago that would let developers upload software and code among other things, but many ditched that for Amazon’s simpler and more flexible services. The latest Google Cloud is starting to copy that simplicity according to Greene.

MORE FOCUS ON SALES FOR GOOGLE

The Cupertino company has never had an issue focusing their attention on technology. It is for that they are so successful, however, sales and marketing has hardly been a priority. If Google Cloud is going to become a top competitor, Green is creating a team that has a closer connection with enterprise customers. For someone who used to specialise in self-service web offerings, this is new ground for Google. As a result, their sales team has doubled over the past few months and efforts in marketing are expected to increase with the same ferocity. Expect the future of google to more compatible with customer relations.
