Marcel Hirscher and the Quest for ‘The Perfect Turn’

3-time Overall World Cup winner, 2 time World Champion, 2 time overall World Cup winner in slalom and Overall World Cup winner in giant slalom. Oh right, and a silver medal in slalom in the 2014 Sochi Olympics, the list of victories and accomplishments earned by Austrian Marcel Hirscher goes on and on.

  1. To what do you owe your success in skiing?

My family and friends, my whole team, my physics combined with consistent hard work.

  1. What do you feel you could have done differently to win the gold medal in the Sochi 2014 Olympics?

I should have beat 1:41.84

  1. You have had an incredible career, is there anything that you still wish to accomplish while you compete?

It is still going on, right?! So I’m still looking for the perfect turn.

  1. What is next for Marcel Hirscher?

Combining easy summer‐living with training, preparation and enjoying every day.

Getting to know Marcel Hirscher a bit better:

  1. What is your greatest fear?

I don’t really care about fear; I prefer respect in every aspect of my life.

  1. If you never picked up skiing, what would you be doing for a living?

I’ve always wanted to be a professional skier. Beyond the slopes I’m the creative type and really interested in communication, so there are    many options.

  1. If a tree falls in the middle of the forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Everything is somehow connected with everything, so it does make a ‘sound’.

  1. Who is your biggest rival or toughest competitor?

Name it… that’s me!

  1. What is the manliest thing you have ever done? Example: I once ate a 72oz steak in one sitting.

What is manly? I’d call most of my hobbies quite manly. But the manliest thing what we can really do is to honor the part of our girlfriend and stand by her in every situation.

10.  Would you rather be incredibly handsome but dumb or incredibly smart but ugly?

I’m pretty content.

I suppose I’d be “pretty content” too if I were boasting a lengthy track record of victories the way Marcel does. He’s one of the top slalom skiers in the world and it didn’t come easy. He works hard day and night training to perfect his skills on the mountain, perhaps its his drive and ambition that separates him from the rest of the pack.
