Some people love going abroad and staying in hotels since they provide that added bit of luxury when you’re away from home. However, that sometimes can come with a very hefty price tag, which may leave you feeling a bit homesick. What can you do in this situation?
A website called ‘Airbnb‘ might be the perfect solution for you. It was for me.
Airbnb is an online service that allows people to advertise their entire homes, apartments, room shares, castles (!), or even igloos (!!) for travelers to rent for a holiday or even an extended stay somewhere.
You simply head on over to their website, type in your destination, the dates and how many guests you attend to bring along. You can then filter your search by room type, price range, size, neighbourhoods and amenities.
Once you’ve found a place you’re interested in, you can either ‘save it to wishlist’ or ‘instantly book’ it. If you chose to instantly book it, however, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ve got the place. The owner needs to confirm your booking and once that has been done, you’re in! You can also contact the owner if you have any questions.
This site really does tailor to your needs – whether you’re looking for a specific type of room or for accommodations set in a specific location. Either way, you don’t want to be paying big bucks for a hotel. As I’ve mentioned earlier, there are also some really out of the box ideas in terms of accommodation on this website. So if you’re looking to treat yourself or someone else while you’re away, look no further: this is the place to find it.
My friends and I used Airbnb and found a perfect beach house in Spain. The location was spot on, the prices were dirt cheap and the owner was really helpful. We definitely wouldn’t have found anything right on the beach’s doorstep without utilizing the site.
On the flipside, you can also use Airbnb to advertise your own room/apartment/house, etc. that you own but aren’t using – even if it’s only available for a month or for a couple of weeks.
If you’re looking to rent somewhere you’ve found on Airbnb, I recommend making sure that there are good reviews for that place! Might sound obvious but definitely worth remembering.
