Can’t Afford a New Laptop? Acer’s New Cloudbook Lineup Might Change That

Acer already dominates the shelves when it comes to quality and price for Chromebooks, but now they’re looking to match the same quality and price point with a new lineup of Windows PCs. On Tuesday Acer announced two cloud-based notebooks, the Aspire One Cloudbook 11 and 14 — both powered by Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 10. The 11-inch notebook will start at $169 while the 14-inch variant will start at $199.

The Specs

On the inside, Acer’s Cloudbooks are tailored specifically for using web-applications. With 802.11ac wireless technology, and Intel’s latest mobile processors, users can expect this line of notebooks to perform more akin to a high-end smartphone.

While Acer doesn’t get into specific detail about which processor is being used in these notebooks, we know that Acer has used Intel’s i3 and i5 mobile processors in its Chromebooks before, and both the Intel Core i3-4005u and Intel Core i5-5200 dual-core processors are more than capable at handling a range of web-based apps. Each notebook will also feature 2GB of DDR3L RAM, and feature a HD 1366×768 LED-backlit display.

Acer’s Cloudbooks Are Perfect for Students

The Acer Aspire One Cloudbooks are notebooks targeted at the same type of customers as its Chromebook notebooks: students. Chromebooks are already a great option for most students, but Microsoft’s footprint in the PC market is extensive, and there are times when users need to have a full Microsoft experience. That’s where Acer’s Cloudbooks come in.

SS4

Acer is leverage cloud and web-based applications the same as a Chromebook does. Both laptops come with a full one-year subscription to Office 365 Personal, and between 100GB and 1TB of online storage through Microsoft OneDrive (depending on how much onboard storage you purchase).

Both laptops are also lightweight enough to be carried around campus effortlessly.

The Aspire One Cloudbook 11 Launches in August, the 14 in September

The 11-inch Cloudbook will be arriving sometime this month for North American users, with the 14-inch variant arriving sometime next month. The Aspire One Cloudbook 11 comes in 16GB and 32GB options, with the ability to purchase additional options such as 802.11ac. The Acer Aspire One Cloudbook 14 only comes in 32GB and 64GB options.
