Happy 20th Birthday, PlayStation! Wednesday, September 9, 2015, marks two decades since the North American launch of Sony’s original PlayStation, and the company is celebrating by throwing gamers a huge sale and instructing them to “party like it’s 1995.”

PlayStation’s 20th Anniversary Sale will last until Monday, September 14, so gamers should be taking advantage of the coming weekend to snap up big discounts on over 100 titles. The sale could earn you up to seventy percent (or eighty percent if you’re a PS Pro member) off on dozens of games for PS4, PS3, PS Vita, and PSP.
Discounted games include “Diablo III: Reaper of Souls–Ultimate Evil Edition, Red Dead Redemption: The Undead Collection, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Syphon Filter, and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare–Digital Pro Edition.” Also, “Tomb Raider, Touchdown Fever, Tekken 2, P.O.W. Prisoners of War, Bermuda Triangle, Gang Wars, Gold Medalist, and many more.” Personally, I’ve got my eye on Street Fighter.
Vintage Throwbacks Galore
And because we’re all dying to relive as much of the nineties as possible, Sony has also launched a 20th Anniversary Theme Pack for its PS4 video editing tool, ShareFactory. The pack is available for free and includes retro intros like the original boot up screen, as well as outros, title clips, custom transitions, stickers, and background images.
Sony also released a special video that really stirs up the vintage Christmas morning feels, in which a beaming and adorable tech enthusiast unpacks an original PlayStation from its box and walks you through the exciting accoutrements that a ‘95 gamer would have enjoyed.
November 2016 marks fifteen years for the Xbox; hopefully Microsoft will take the hint and try to out-do PlayStation’s birthday bash MTV-style. But for now, grab your friends, hitch up your Fresh Prince pants, pump up the Skee-Lo, plug in the PS, and party like it’s 1995.
