It’s been a trend for a long time to bring clean water to those who need it. Between pollution and places that never had a clean water source to begin with, providing clean water around the world has proven a difficult adventure. Well, look no further, now there’s DrinkPure. It’s a highly portable water filter, which is great for any adventure you may be on where the local water is questionable, or if you’re a local in one of those places. With DrinkPure, your adventure in life and travel will never be cut short by waterborne illness again.
The trick is in the new way to produce polymer membranes (a polymer is a large molecule and a polymer membrane for filtering water must allow the water molecules to pass while sorting and trapping everything else like bacteria). These new polymer membranes, designed at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich, are more cost efficient, greener, and effective than other polymer membranes in the same market.
Water passes through the DrinkPure filter in three stages: the first removes large plant matter and other materials, the second uses carbon to capture odors and metals (like what your Brita filter does), the third is the membrane which stops bacteria and unwanted particles as small as 90 nanometers. All of this in a package that can fit in your pocket (although it does have a cone shaped spout so it might not fit in a particularly tight pocket), and can be screwed on to a PET water bottle (common for disposable plastic water bottles) in place of the cap.
The DrinkPure water filter is the brainchild of Jeremy Nussbaumer, a student of ETH Zürich. It is his dream to use his invention to severely diminish the 3.8 million deaths a year caused by unclean water. His first adventure in doing so will be in Africa. His belief is to create a product that is easy to use (fill a bottle, screw on the filter, and enjoy fresh water) and functional (the membrane only needs to be replaced once a year from consistent use to remain optimal).
It’s like Bob Marley said, “The fool is thirsty in the abundance of water.” For too long, mankind has been the fool for not finding a way to safely use the water that surrounds us. Well, Jeremy Bussbaumer is no fool, and he and his new water filter are going to ensure that no one in the world will be a fool of unclean water again. But he needs your support to do so.
