OnePlus Feels Guilty About its USB-C Cable

OnePlus

OnePlus has officially announced that they are recalling their USB-C charger cables and adapter after it was warned by a member of Google that it could be potentially dangerous. It is good for companies to recall their products to get whatever problems that exist corrected and give all their customers their money back.

WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE ONEPLUS USB-C CABLE

OnePlus stated that the issue is not with OnePlus 2 devices, but they do not hold up well with no-OnePlus devices. One of the co-founders of the company announced that they can not promise full compatibility with certain products and that it could cause danger to the other products if plugged into. The issue was fully described by Pei. Pei states how their cable uses a 10k resistor, but he stated that according to version 1.1 it should be 56k. Pei went on to say that the cable and adapter are built for 2 amps of power, and when something is plugged in that supersedes that there is a potential for a device to develop internal issues. This has made OnePlus officially announce that they will recall the USB-C cable and they will fix these problems. The good thing for users is that they are going to be giving them full refunds on the USB-C cable.

WILL THIS HURT ONEPLUS?

Like mentioned previously, companies recall their products all the time so this should not end up hurting them. If nothing else this will be better for them because they admit their mistake and decided to fix it and give full money back. Will this make customers think twice about buying a OnePlus device? There is a possibility that some customers will indeed think like this, but one thing that needs to be remembered is all companies will make mistakes every now and then. The Company did not run away from it, but instead they embraced it. Hopefully, when they re-release the USB-C cable they will have had figured out all of their problems and come back with a much more improved cable for their customers.
