The idea of gene-editing is very controversial and some people have expressed their dislike towards it. However, the reality of the situation, it is being practiced and it could potentially come to fruition in the future. Let’s take a look at how some people do not believe in it, as well as why it might just be worth it.

THE EXPRESSION OF DISLIKE FOR GENE-EDITING

The dictionary has gene-editing defined as a developing technology to modify human DNA. A team at China’s Sun Yat-sen University announced that they are currently altering inheritable genes in non-viable human embryos. They say that they are the first one’s to do anything like this in history. However, some have already expressed their dislike. The biggest entity that has expressed their feelings about gene-editing at the time is The White House. They have stated that altering the human germline for clinical purposes is a line that should not be crossed at this time.

Also, Pew Surveys took a survey and asked Americans if they believed in modifying genes to improve baby’s intelligence. Pew says that 83 percent of people were against it. That means only 17 percent of Americans thought that it would be a good idea. However, they did say that 50 percent of the Americans were not against using it to prevent disease.

Even though some people do not believe in gene-editing for improving intelligence, the fact that people could be made to be more intelligent is intriguing. Who knows, if this is done the children who receive it could end up being as smart as Bill Gates. The world having people more like Bill Gates would be a good thing indeed!
