Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 on Xbox 360 and PS3 Still Far Behind Skate 3

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 on Xbox 360 and PS3 Still Far Behind Skate 3

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 has just gotten a launch for the Xbox 360 and PS3 in the US, but the game is still nothing compared to EA Games Skate 3. The game was supposed to release in the United States on November 13. It’s making its American debut almost a month later.

An American Release Doesn’t Make Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Series Any Better

The game hasn’t had a lot of positive reviews, at least in comparison to the previous four installments in the series. The game was laden with glitches and bugs. Activision was forced to do some troubleshooting to fix these issues, which were parodied by both fans and critics, who gave generally unfavorable reviews

Activision released an update just a week ago with hefty fixes and improved stability, but beyond that, there’s not much the developer can do. The reviews weren’t only negative in terms of the glitches, but also the gameplay. Landscapes saw a drastic change from the previous games.

The Game is Available Physically and Digitally for the US, Digitally Only for the UK

The game was initially released for PS4 and Xbox One on September 29, and previous generation console releases were delayed due to technical issues with the current gen consoles. This is perhaps why the roll out for PS3 and Xbox 360 was so quiet.

There was no official announcement from Activision. Instead, the game made its presence known through retailer listings, which pointed to a December 15 release. What’s more, earlier generation consoles will not have as much content as gamers on the PS4 and Xbox One. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 will not feature online multiplayer for Xbox 360 or PS3, simply because these consoles do not have that functionality.

Activision Has Been Mum About the Game

Activision has made no comments in regards to future DLCs or any additional content for the game. The company hasn’t even said anything regarding the glitches that the first roll-out of the game had if they’ve been improved at all.

It’s likely that Activision isn’t expecting to draw a lot of profit from the game, given the fact that it’s become a bit of an online joke. Popular gamer websites are advising players to be cautious about buying the game, as they should be prepared to deal with the same bugs PS4 and Xbox One users experienced.

A Good Word for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5

Despite it all, the game gives gamers a new kind of combo-driven skateboarding in its gameplay, and it features the most advanced online multiplayer experience in any Tony Hawk game. The skatepark has also received much praise, as well as the character customizations. The positives just could not weigh out the negatives. The game had a laggy multiplayer, bad frame-rates and off-putting physics.

Will there Be Another Tony Hawk Pro Skater Game?

The game’s response puts the future of the series at peril. It’s likely that there will not be another Tony Hawk Pro Skater game out for quite some time. Either that or Activision will release another better version.

Whatever route the developer decides to make will likely get a reluctant response from the public. The average user score that was submitted by gamers to Metacritic was 1.5, which is abysmal. Considering how popular the game was in its previous installments, the team of developers and producers have some serious work to do to get the games’ popularity back.

Die Hard Skateboard Game Fans Should Grab Skate 3

Meanwhile, Skater 3 has taken the crown for skateboarding games, quickly becoming a crowd favorite. It was often compared to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 after release, and it became an obvious champion. Skater 3 is currently available for Xbox 360 and PS3.
