GoPro is partnering up with Twitter through their live video streaming service, Periscope. GoPro owners can live stream their footage directly to Periscope.
Now, All You Need to Show Your Exploits to the World is an iPhone and a GoPro
Although users still need to keep their smartphone nearby to make use of these joined services, this is a great step forward. The GoPro Hero 4 will be able to connect to an iPhone through Wi-Fi. The iPhone can set Periscope to broadcast. The Periscope app will get a GoPro button to send your footage live. The integration isn’t available for Android devices yet.
Why This Partnership Happened
The camera making company noticed that Periscope was getting more adventurous by the day. Users were often putting their phones in dangerous places to stream through Periscope. The GoPro is built for this kind of peril, so they decided to reach out to Periscope. Naturally, this is mutually beneficial. Periscope fans love action footage, and camera owners love shooting it. This gives snowboarders, surfers and other daredevils the perfect platform.
Twitter Gets the Best of Both Worlds
This partnership is also brining some bang to Twitter. The X Games in Aspen will be the host of many live broadcasts on Periscope from GoPro cameras. This won’t cover the main action, but it’ll bring in a lot of complementary video to the exciting games, which start next week. Next Wednesday, snowboarder Jamie Anderson will give the viewers a preview of the X Games.
Periscope will also host live chats, behind the scenes sequences and other previews. The camera maker’s website will release more information before the event begins.
How Does this Affect Facebook?
Facebook recently released a virtual Sports Stadium, which brings together sports fans from around the world just in time for the first major sports event of 2016: the Super Bowl 50. They don’t have a great grasp of video platforms just yet, which is not the case for Twitter. Twitter owns both Periscope and Vine, incredibly popular video platforms. So the partnership with GoPro is beneficial to all sides.
