AOL may have the most recognizable saying of all time, and that is “you’ve got mail”. They have been around for quite a long time, and they have seen their ups and downs. Due to their rich history, they have some very interesting facts about them, and here are the top three.
FACT 1: THE HISTORY
Way back in 1989, AOL launched its first version of their instant messaging service. They were actually called Quantum at the time, and only six years later they released their Buddy List feature. They eventually reached five million members on it, and by 2009 the company had produced over 80 content websites. Not only this but around the same time AOL went from being an hourly service into a free service.
FACT 2: HOW TO UNSEND A MESSAGE IN OUTLOOK
AOL allows users to configure an account that will work with Outlook, and there is actually a way to un-send an email. OK, so technically there is no way to, but it can be accomplished. You can actually recall an email by using the “Recall This Email” feature, but it is not always available. To do this, users must go to the “Sent Items” folder, then users will need to go to their message and click on “Actions”. After this is done, users will be able to see the “Recall This Message” option.
FACT 3: AOL SCAREWARE
Nearly four years ago, AOL and Support were filed a lawsuit for their “scareware” software. This software misidentified the fact that they would resolve any host problems that users had. Also, AOL charged users a monthly fee for using this software. This “scareware” was actually a part of the company’s Computer Checkup. The company still markets this, but it is unknown if they still use these techniques. For everyone’s sake, let’s hope that they don’t.
