Most people are fully aware of how bad the air pollution is in Delhi. The capital territory of India, as a matter of fact, is widely considered the most polluted city in the world. The people over there live under harsh conditions, and it is truly a shame. Every single day someone could die from the air pollution there, and now it appears Mumbai may be as bad as them.
THE DEONAR FIRE EFFECTS MUMBAI
For those of you who are unaware, in Mumbai, there is the Deonar dumping ground. This is where the city dumps their waste, but there was a fire that happened. This fire, which has not been completely doused, has made the pollution levels over there rise dramatically. At least, that is what many experts are saying caused the rise of pollution. The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research, SAFAR, had the Air Quality Index level of Delhi at 341 on January 29, 2016. On this same morning, SAFAR had the Air Quality Index levels of Mumbai at 325. Whenever the levels get above 300, it resembles an air pollution level that is very high. As a matter of fact, SAFAR noted how this was the most polluted the air has ever been since they began.
THE AIR POLLUTION WAS ALREADY STARTING TO GET WORSE
Even though this fire may have enhanced the problems in Mumbai, things were already starting to get worse. This city was already starting to resemble Delhi, and the previous year’s Air Quality Index levels proved it. Last November 12th, the score for Mumbai was 313, and then on New Year’s eve, it was recorded as 300. As can be seen, they have been hovering around 300 for quite some time now. Let’s hope that they can stop this increase of air pollution because they don’t want to end up like Delhi.
