Just when you didn’t think Barbie could become any different, someone went and dressed her up in a hijab. Recently on Instagram, a Nigerian medical student posted an image of this occurrence. The woman who decided to do this actually spoke with the media and told everyone why she posted this picture of Barbie. She stated how she had never seen this doll dressed in a hijab, and it was special for her to dress up a doll like she would. She went on to say that typically Barbie is dressed in skimpy clothing, and she wanted to show a different side of her. To sum up her reasoning, she said she wanted to create an identity for her.

Not only this but there have also been several requests from people around the world who wanted to buy this doll. What started as a simple show of respect to her religion, has now turned into a global phenomenon.
FACT 3 ON THE HIJAB WEARING BARBIE
This post was not all about fun, though, because the creator wanted to explain a general misconception. She notes how many people believe that Muslims are forced to cover themselves, but she said the majority of them choose to. Expressing their religion, and being proud of it, is the main reason they dress like they do, she goes on to say. The creator finished by saying that this is a great way to correct this misconception.
