There is a current debacle in Georgia right now. They are trying to pass a bill that would allow medical marijuana oil to be manufactured in the state. However, law enforcement officials are proving to be the biggest obstacle for this to be achieved. These said officials have given their reasoning on why they think this shouldn’t happen, and their points are valid.
FIRST REASON: PEOPLE WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT
As the district attorney of the Northeastern Judicial Circuit of Georgia, Lee Darragh, points out the legalization of medical marijuana oil could lead to people taking advantage of it. Darragh mentions how he thinks it would be devastating to the state of Georgia, and it would pave the way for it becoming prominent in the state. Then, he stated the most valid point he could. This medical marijuana oil could lead to it no longer being about the children at need.
SECOND REASON: THE BILL IS TOO BROAD
Another person voiced out on this bill, Senator Butch Miller, and he mentioned how the bill was much broader than he desired. He then continued by saying he would like to see more safeguards in place, as well as having the profit motive significantly reduced. Miller brings up valid points because if a bill is going to be passed, then it needs to be as detailed as possible.
THIRD REASON: IT WOULD MAKE GEORGIA A BIG BUSINESS MARIJUANA INDUSTRY
The Hall County Sheriff, Gerald Couch, mentioned how this bill would put the state on an irreversible path that would make the state a huge marijuana industry. Couch said this makes him uncomfortable because this would be adopting a program of the commercialization of pot. He has a point because even though the state would be making more money, they would be known as the marijuana state. That is not a tag line to be proud of.
