It is safe to say that the FBI and the US Government are not seeing eye to eye with Apple at the moment. After the FBI ordered Apple to hack into one of their iPhones, CEO Tim Cook expressed his opinions. He stated how this was chilling, and would completely undermine the freedoms that the government is trying to protect. The reason why the FBI and US Government are doing this is because of the San Bernardino mass shooting. I also think that Edward Snowden may have said it best years ago.
FIRST REASON: FBI TAKING APPLE TO COURT
There was a mass shooting at San Bernardino where fourteen innocent people were murdered in cold blood. Well, the FBI and US Government are desperate to access the data on one of the phones of the shooters. To do this, Apple must hack into the phone and receive the data. They refuse, but the FBI and US Government are not going to accept it. The FBI has actually taken Apple to court to try and get their help in discovering the data in the iPhone. They are not trying to get the company to remove the encryption, but they do want them to bypass the limit of passcode attempts on it.
SECOND REASON: A US MAGISTRATE ORDERED THEM TO ASSIST
Whether or not Apple believes in this, they have no choice. A US magistrate has actually ordered them to help to hack into the iPhone that belongs to one of the shooters. Per the ruling, they must supply the FBI with highly specialized software that they can use.
EDWARD SNOWDEN SAID IT BEST
